Bristlecone Pine Tree. The Great Basin Bristlecone pines are an extremely rare species found only in California, Nevada and Utah. They live in tough environment which in turn makes them very tough. In this grove below Wheeler Peak, the oldest trees are more than 4000 years old. This grove is reached by a 1.5 mile strenuous hike (at elevations of 10000 feet or higher) from the end of the scenic drive at Wheeler Peak Campground. It started snowing shortly after we started. It wasn't the typical snowflake you'd expect, rather, it was like large white dipping dots, softer than hail but definitely not fluffy, and it was coming down very intensely. It took us about 1.5 hours to get to this grove. 大盆地狐尾松很稀少，只在加利福尼亚，内华达，犹他州有分布。恶劣的生存环境造就了它们的坚韧不拔。惠勒峰下的这一片林中的老树树龄要超过4000年。从观景路的终点徒步2.5公里到这片树林，全程都在海拔3000米以上而且崎岖不平，我们单程就花了一个半小时。刚上路不久就下起了绿豆大小的雪粒，虽然不像冰雹一样硬也没雪花那么软，而且下的非常密。
