Shote taken at Rose Canyon Lake parking. I was not sure if we should visit Mt Lemmon because it was relatively far and I’ve heard from someone that it was a lot of driving for a few birds far away. In the end I decided to give it a try, in the hope to see something different, mainly high altitude birds and a Red-faced Warbler would be awesome. Although in the end no Red-faced was seen, it was better than I expected. The General Hitchcock Picnic Area turned out to be very productive in terms of species count (Acorn woodpeckers, a few species of warblers and vireos, tanager etc.), and I saw my lifer Painted Redstart (too bad no useable shot) there. Quite a few Wilson’s Warblers were foraging in the trees at Rose Canyon Lake. We searched the end of Incinerator Ridge Road and Marshall Gulch per the suggestion of a park employee for Red-faced to no avail. However we saw Steller’s Jay, Wilson’s Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler (I think) at Marshall Gulch, where we also found Rock and Abert’s squirrels. And Yellow-eyed Juncos were everywhere in the park.
