Went and stayed at the Big Meadows Lodge for the Milky Way. The Northern Lights was unexpected and a sweet bonus - it wasn't obvious to my near-sighted eyes but the dancing red and pink columns in the time-lapse video are unmistakable. Here is an news article on the unusual sightings as far south as South Carolina, thanks to the approaching maximum phase of the solar cycle.
