Jupiter Saturn conjunction
12/20 evening. They will be at their closest on the evening of 12/21 which is forecast to be cloudy. Already it can be hard to tell them apart with the naked eye. They haven't been seen this close for several hundred years. Jupiter is quite bright right now. Saturn are smaller and much further from Earth hence obviously dimmer but its ring is still identifiable. The moons of Jupiter is a lot dimmer. No one shot can get all of them properly exposed, so this is a composite of three images taken within the span of half an hour, one for Jupiter (ISO 1600, Av 6.3, Tv 1/640), one for Saturn (ISO 4000, Av 6.3, Tv 1/400), and one for the moons (ISO 12800, Av 6.3, Tv 1/50). Based on that we can deduce to us Jupiter is probably about 100 times brighter than its four moons captured here.
