Mars (one hour after opposition which occurred at 3:50 am on July 27, 2018) and Moon. They were much further from each other, and I put them in the same frame in Photoshop to show the perceived difference in size when observing on Earth. They were taken at the same focal length with the same exposure. So "closesest" is all relative, Mars was still 35.8 million miles away at opposition! The 2003 opposition was the closest in the past 6000 years. It won't be closer than that until 2287!
