Let me go!
Went to Occoquan NWR again today for the fox cubs. Unfortunately I found out Fox Road (where the den is) was closed. Ran into a ranger later and he told me they'd been getting reports of people getting too close, and even one woman trying to pet the cubs! They had no choice but to close the area for now. This made me hike most of the trails in the refuge looking for other wildlife. Spotted the bald eagle nest with chicks in it which a birder told me about earlier in the morning, but there was no open view so the shots were not useable. When I walked by the banding station, I saw a small sign that read "Come in, we are open". The volunteers banding there were very nice. When I got in they were about to release this flicker, and let me take a few picture of him. He was pecking on the hand of the bander, trying to break free. The volunteers gave me an introduction of the program. When they came back empty handed from the last check of the net for the day, they told me to come back any day for the rest of the season. I sure will.
